“John Crane” Plastic Packings-Super-Seal Dry-Graphitized Plastic Packings “”John Crane” Super-
Seal is a superior general purpose plastic type packing composed of special long fibre pure
asbestos, suitable anti-frictional metal particles, fine lubricating graphite, and special binders to
suit specific conditions.  This packing is manufactured by a new process which dry-graphitizes
every asbestos fibre and metal particle.  The graphite and metal particles are evenly distributed
throughout the packing, always assuring an anti-frictional wearing face.  Super-Seal contains no
volatile oils-nothing can be squeezed out or driven off under heat.  The major ingredients are
bonded together with a resilient binder.  This insures a better seal with less friction and longer
life of the packing.  Super-Seal retains its resiliency and does not dry out or get hard.  “John
Crane” Super-Seal is available in the following styles for special services:”:  Super-Seal No. 1
“This style is manufactured of white metal particles, graphite, binder and special long fibre
asbestos.”; Super-Seal No. 2 “This style is manufactured by using synthetic oil-proof binder,
graphite and special long fibre asbestos.”; Super-Seal No. 3 “This style is manufactured of white
metal particles, graphite, synthetic oil-proof binder, and special long fibre asbestos.”; Super-
Seal No. 4 “This style is manufactured by using mica, binder, and special long fibre asbestos.
This packing is non-metallic.  It is white and contains no graphite.”; Super-Seal No. 5 “This style
is manufactured by using blue African asbestos, graphite, and binder.  This packing is non-
metallic.”; Super-Seal No. 6 “This style is manufactured of graphite, special long fibre asbestos
and binder.  This packing is non-metallic.”; Super-Seal No. 6-D “This style is manufactured by
using graphite, special long fibre asbestos, and synthetic oil-proof binder.  This packing is non-
metallic.”; Jacketed Super-Seal Packings “All six styles of Super-Seal shown on the foregoing
pages can be furnished with a braided asbestos jacket.  The jacket is securely vulcanized to the
proper style of Super-Seal and helps it to retain its splendid resilience at high temperatures.”;
Pump and Packing Lubricants; Insoluble Plastic Lead Seal, Insoluble Pipe Joint Seal.

(Aluminum) Metallic Packing & High Temperature (Copper) Metallic Packing ““John Crane” Styles
100-AL and 100-CU are flexible metallic packings made by spirally wrapping thin ribbons of soft-
annealed aluminum or copper foil loosely about a small core of pure dry asbestos roving, and
squared to the desired size.  Every ribbon is thoroughly lubricated with high temperature oil and
graphite, and all the voids and interstices form reservoirs of lubrication.  Under compression,
these reservoirs furnish lubrication to the moving parts.”; Low Temperature Metallic Packing
““John Crane” Style 110 is a flexible semi-metallic packing made by spirally wrapping thin
ribbons of soft Babbitt foil about a core of lubricated asbestos, layer over layer construction, and
squared to the required size.  The Babbitt foil jacket is thoroughly lubricated with oil and
graphite, reducing friction to a minimum.  The lubricated asbestos core provides resiliency.”;
Resilient Core Metallic Packing “The core of “John Crane” Style 110-M is soft dry braided
asbestos.  Ribbons of soft babbit foil are twisted, crinkled and folded about it, and the complete
packing is squared to the required size.  The babbit foil is thoroughly lubricated with oil and
graphite to reduce shaft friction.  Asbestos core construction provides the resiliency necessary to
maintaining minimum leakage with minimum attention.”; Flax Core Metal-face Packing; Copper
Jacketed Semi-metallic Packing “”John Crane” Style 250 is a flexible semi-metallic packing
made by braiding a jacket of soft-annealed copper wire over a core of special plastic (long-fibre
